Holly McPeak, beach volleyball player

American beach volleyball player Holly McPeak, born on 15 May 1969 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, is one of the most successful professional beach volleyball players in the United States. With an amazing tally of 72 career beach volleyball titles, she had partnered with Elaine Youngs at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece and won a bronze medal.

Holly McPeak retired on 6 May 2009 from her beach volleyball professional career, and afterwards worked as a commentator for Pac-10 volleyball featured on Fox Sports West and for televised games of UCLA. On October 30, 2009, she was inducted into Volleyball Hall of Fame in recognition of her contributions to the game.

Bipasha Basu celebrated her 33rd birth day

The Bong actress Bipasha Basu, who is best known for playing bold roles in Indian cinema, especially in Bollywood films, though she also has made her indelible marks in Bengali, Telugu and Tamil films, has celebrated her 33rd birthday on 7th January 2012.

After a successful modeling career that sold a lot of brands in India and abroad, Bips debuted in the 2001 film Ajnabee in a negative role, but the talented actress soon carved out a place for herself in Indian cinema, and often attracted the tags such as Sex Symbol and in the course of time she acted in a number of hit films and others noted for their cinematic excellence.

Some of her notable films include Raaz (2002), Jism (2003), No Entry (2005), Apharan (2005), Phir Hera Pheri (2006), Corporate (2006), Dhoom 2 (2006), Race (2008), Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008) and Lamhaa (2010).

In 2011 Bips’ had only one release, Dum Maaro Dum which was reasonably good at the box-office and received good critical acclaim.

Basu’s third movie with Abbas-Mustan, Players, which released on 6 January, 2012, though had a satisfactory opening on the first day, its occupancy rate was only around 30 % in many circuits, though some reported up to 70%.

Basu’s debut into English language films is with Roland Joffé’s Singularity, an epic romance time travel adventure drama set mainly against the historical backdrop of the first Anglo-Maratha war and the current times, in which she plays a Maratha warrior Taluja Naik. Singularity, produced at a budget of $27 million, also stars actors Josh Hartnett, Neve Campbell and Abhay Deol in main cast. The film is slated for its premiere at the 65th annual Cannes International Film Festival in May of 2012.

Bipasha Basu, along with R Madhavan, will play the lead role in Ashwini Chaudhary’s Jodi Breakers, slated for release in February, also stars Omi Vaidya and Dipannita Sharma, Helen, Mrinalini Sharma, Tarana Raja, and Pradeep Kharab in supporting roles. Jodi Breakers is already being criticized as an unofficial ‘remake’ or copy of the 2010 French romantic comedy film ‘Heartbreaker’ (L'arnacœur) that starred Romain Duris and Vanessa Paradis.

Basu will appear in a guest role in Vikram Bhatt’s Raaz 3D, scheduled for release in August, 2012. She will have another guest appearance as Sonia in Abbas-Mustan’s Race 2 scheduled for release in November 2012.
