Genelia’s birthday celebrated at Mehboob Studio
Genelia D'Souza, who started her acting career with the Hindi movie ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam’ (2003), celebrated her 26th birthday in Mumbai on August 5.
Genelia, who is called by her pet name Geenu by her near and dear ones, turned to South Indian films after Tujhe Meri Kasam, and she became one of the most celebrated actresses in Tamil and Telugu films.
Her reappearance in Bollywood was in ‘Mere Baap Pehle Aap’ alongside Akshaye Khanna, which was a moderately successful film. It was followed by the smash hit ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ which starred debutant Imran Khan as the hero. Her sweetness and freshness, and style of acting were much appreciated. Movie lovers can never forget Genelia's touching role of the innocent Aditi Mahant "Meow" in the film and her wonderful dance steps to 'Pappu Can’t Dance Saala'.
It was reported the noted director duo Abbas Mustan and Studio 18, co producers of the forthcoming movie 'Life Partner', along with director Rumi Jaffery, celebrated Genelia D'Souza's birthday at Mehboob Studio in Mumbai on Wednesday. Genelia features opposite Fardeen Khan in 'Life Partner' being released next week. The film also stars Govinda, Tusshar Kapoor, Prachi Desai and Amrita Rao.

Some of these films are in various stages of filming and her fans can look forward to viewing films like It's My Life, which is a remake of Bomarillu with Harman Baweja to be released in 2009. Genelia D'Souza’s Hindi movies
Genelia is an adorable, cute heroine liked very much by her fans for the bubbly characters she plays in films. She first hit the limelight with a Parker Pen commercial starring along side Amitabh Bachchan and further did a Fair and Lovely ad appearing along side Srikanth. The ace Tamil director, Shankar was very much impressed with her performance in both the ads and cast her in a leading role in his Tamil version of "Boys" in 2003.
But after a few movies, she was not seen much in Tamil films as she had made her foray into Telugu films. She was a successful actress in Telugu movies and she won a couple of Filmfare Awards for her performance in "Bommarillu".
Genelia D'Souza was on the look out for greener pastures for her acting career and she signed up for Hindi movies "Masti" and "Mere Baap Pehle Aap" which were average in the box office, though her debut Hindi movie was "Tujhe Meri Kasam". It seems she had not much of choice in selecting suitable roles and landed up in roles that were not meant for her. Script selection being wrong, she couldn't taste success.
But, Genelia’s performance in "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na" is acclaimed as runaway success by many critics and movie-watchers. Her role in the film was cut out for her and the ensuing success was attributed to choice of the right role. She played the peppy role of herself, the-girl-next-door type of character in the movie. She carved out a place for herself in Bollywood with a couple of projects coming her way.
Genelia D'Souza was in Mumbai, where Bollywood is based and grew up in Mumbai and though recognizes herself as a Mangalorean Catholic. Genelia studied at St. Teresa High School in Santacruz, Mumbai. She joined St. Andrews College, Bandra to pursue her Bachelor's Degree of Management Studies. So it is only natural for her to hope for a long innings in Hindi movies too.
