Actress Charmi's box office hits
After a number of flops starting with her debut film Nee Thodu Kaavali (2002) followed mainly by flop films like Kadal Azhavatillai, Kattuchembakam, Aahaa Ethanai Azhagu, Kadhal Kisu Kisu, Sri Anjaneyam and Chanti, Actress Charmi finally got a big break turning out box office hits with the Telugu movie Gowri (2004), in which she did the role of Sweta, paired with Sumanth. She never had to look back afterwards after Gowri. It was followed by the stupendous success of Mass (2004, she appeared as Priya) with Nagarjuna. The film “Mass” strengthened her position as a top heroine in Tollywood.
Charmi's most distinguished and critically acclaimed film so far is Anukokunda Oka Roju (2005, she played the role of Sahasra). It was a heroine-oriented thriller and she played the lead role in it. Her performance in the movie was acclaimed by critics and loved by the audience.
Though her 2006 film, Pournami was a total failure, her spectacular performance was appreciated by all. Though she never learned Indian classical dances, her Bharata Natyam and Kuchipudi dances in the film were appreciated by audiences.
Charmi's film Chinnodu (2006) was a moderate success at the box-office. Her next film, Rakhi (2006 with Junior NTR), was a hit and Charmi's role was much appreciated by critics and her fans. Another film, Mantra (2007), a thriller with Charmi in the lead role, ran with houseful shows. Her performance in the movie was appreciated by wide range of audience as well as critics and film industry leaders.
