The Pussycat Dolls, the American pop girl group and dance ensemble, comprising of lead singer Nicole Scherzinger and Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts, Kimberly Wyatt and Carmit Bachar, released their second studio album, Doll Domination, which included the song “Jai Ho!” (Genre: Bhangra, Indian pop, dance-pop). The song, a single released on February 23, 2009, was by A. R. Rahman and the Pussycat Dolls featuring Nicole Scherzinger and written by A.R. Rahman, Nicole Scherzinger, Ron Fair and Gulzar.

The song was recorded in 2009 by the Pussycat Dolls with English lyrics and produced in collaboration with A. R. Rahman and Ron Fair, and mixed by Peter Mokran. According to Scherzinger the single is an interpretation rather than a remix. The new version is called "Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)".

The music video of the new version premiered on March 13, 2009. The video recreates the last scene from Slumdog Millionaire at a Tramway Museum in Vienna, Austria, and was directed by Thomas Kloss.

In 2009, the original version of Jai Ho, from the movie Slumdog Millionaire won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, beating out WALL-E's Down to Earth by Peter Gabriel, and “O... Saya”, also of Slumdog Millionaire and by A. R. Rahman.
